We’ve officially entered those weird spring-ish months. While we won’t see any blooming for a while, the heaviness of winter starts to lift, and things have a feeling of newness to them. Newness covered in a lot of grime, that is. Which is why we need to start thinking about spring cleaning. But, before you start feeling overwhelmed at the prospect, keep in mind that cleaning has many more benefits than just a tidy home.

There are several reasons for this. First, 20 minutes of vigorous cleaning, like any exercise, can reduce stress by up to 20%. Second, the act of decluttering a space reduces stress and anxiety. And, third, if you use cleaning products with a calming scent – like lavender, or citrus – you can get aromatherapy benefits during the process.

Clean sheets and a tidy bedroom will help you get a better night’s sleep, according to a Sleep Foundation Survey. And that makes sense – who doesn’t like sleeping on fresh sheets? But, even more, it’s easier to sleep when you don’t see reminders of all the things you have to do tomorrow surrounding you! A tidy room allows you to relax and feel supported by your environment, instead of exhausted by it.

If you suffer from seasonal allergies or environmental allergies, spring cleaning is essential. Getting rid of dust, dander and mildew will allow you to breathe better and help give your immune system a boost.
