Thanksgiving and the importance of gratitude
In Canada, Thanksgiving is a holiday based around the harvest. It is a time to stop and be grateful for all of the bounty we have received from the crops, both literal and metaphorical, that we have sown over the year. It’s an incredibly important ritual because it reminds us not only about what we have, but also about the value of planting seeds and nurturing what we want to see in our lives.
Gratitude is strongly linked to happiness and life satisfaction. It improves relationships and even helps in business. It makes us healthier (and even makes us exercise more!). It makes us sleep better and live longer. Spending time at Thanksgiving thinking about and expressing our gratitude is one of the best things we can do to create even more to be grateful about.
It’s also a great time to think about giving back and building a bigger table for more people to enjoy the incredible abundance that surrounds us. We live in one of the richest, happiest countries in the world, and so many of us did nothing but be lucky enough to be born here. Thanksgiving is a time to remember and be grateful, and to invite others to have the opportunity to share in the abundance. Spread the love and the gratitude!
Whatever your plans are for Thanksgiving, we hope that people who make you feel loved and supported surround you. We hope you are taking time to show gratitude. And, we hope you are committing to helping others have just as much to feel grateful for as you do.
Happy Thanksgiving, friends. We are thankful for you.
