Father’s Day is just around the corner

Father’s Day is just around the corner.

If that announcement filled you with panic, don’t worry – we have you covered. There is plenty to do with dad to celebrate Father’s Day.

For instance, did you know there was an event called Porkapalooza BBQ Festival? (I know! It’s perfect!) It’s held on Saturday, June 15 from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. and on Sunday, June 16, from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. outside the Edmonton Expo Centre. And it’s free to attend (though you’ll want to bring money for some food and drinks as well).

Not to be too food-focused, but there’s also a Father’s Day Brunch at Fort Edmonton Park, at the Hotel Selkirk. You’ll have to pre-book (hopefully there’s still room!) but the Selkirk’s brunch has a wide selection of foods and the setting is beautiful.

(Okay – I’m definitely being food-centric. But it’s fine. Dad will love it.)

Obviously, we can’t generalize to all dads, but if your dad is into beer, he might also really like the gathering of food trucks and the beer garden that is happening on Father’s Day between noon and 4 at the St. Albert Grain Elevator Park. Featuring the best food trucks in the region, live music, family-friendly activities, and plenty of beer, this festival is sure to make the papa in your life feel loved. Admission is by donation, although you’ll want to bring money for food and drinks as well.

If your father isn’t into the food or beer scene, or you want to give him something he can enjoy on his own, then might you consider a haircut and a hot shave at a really special place like The Refuge? It’s truly a unique treat, and if your dad isn’t comfortable going full spa, then this is a wonderful alternative.

Whatever you end up doing with, or for, dad, we hope you spend time thanking the father’s in your life. We appreciate you, dads of the world!
